Chocolat-Dipped Johnny Depp Stirs Up New Faith in Film Series

A new Faith in Film series begins tonight at 7 p.m., Maiden Alley Cinema, with one of my favorites, Chocolat. With the exception of the remake clunker Willy Wonka, it’s really hard not to love the concept of Johnny Depp and chocolate all in one movie — and Juliette Binoche is just gorgeous in it.

Tonight’s film is sponsored by Grace Episcopal Church, one of many churches supporting the Faith in Film series. The idea came from a cinema board brainstorming session on how to expand programming during the week. Hottie board member Matt Jaeger floated the idea by several churches, and got a great response. If this first series is successful, we’ll see more films sponsored by churches next year. Tickets are $3, with the funds benefiting the fabulous Paducah Cooperative Ministry.

Here’s the rest of the schedule:

April 14: Jurassic Park - Sponsored by First Presbyterian Church

May 12: Cider House Rules - Sponsored by Arcadia & Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church

June 9: Whale Rider - Sponsored by United Church of Paducah

July 14: Simon Birch - Sponsored by Arcadia & Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church

Aug. 11: Places in the Heart - Sponsored by First Presbyterian
 Church

Sept. 8: Dead Man Walking - Sponsored by United Church of Paducah

Oct. 13: The Fisher King - Sponsored by Grace Episcopal Church

Optional discussions follow each film. Please pass the word along to family, friends and neighbors!
