Does Yellow Dog Belong to You?

You don't have to be a Yellow Dog Democrat to fall in love with Yellow Dog.

Beth Summers found this female yellow lab just the other day in the Reidland area — no collar. Beth and her husband have been calling her Yellow Dog and say that she is well-manicured and well-groomed and knows how to sit, stay and come on command. (Hum, wonder where she gets her nails done.)

Anyway, she must belong to somebody. Beth would love to keep her but already has a large dog. If she's yours — or if you'd like to have her — she's at the McCracken County Humane Society. She's between 4 and 6 years old. She looks super, super sweet!

New GOP Web site

This just in from the always-beautiful Sarah Bynum: The McCracken County Republican Party just launched its new Web site — mccrackengop.com. On it, you'll find the 102 Broadway office hours, volunteer opportunities, a calendar, links to candidates and ways to contribute.

Dining with Dad: Last Call!

Today's the last day to share your favorite memory of dining with your dad at Cynthia's. We've received two super sweet ones so far. So send us yours, and check iList Paducah this Wednesday to see which one the Cynthia's crew selected for this month's prize: a custom-made cake by Eric Good!

It's all part of Cynthia's 15th Anniversary! July's theme is marriage proposals. So get out your hankies and tell us how you proposed — or were proposed to! The winner receives flowers from InBloom and a Paducah Main Street Commemorative Brick on Lover's Lane!

Bubbly Bubble Q!

Friday night's 2nd Ever Bubble Q was most definitely the best ever, with great music from the Murr-Vegas, refreshments and a turnout of super fun and super cute Paducah Main Street fans including the Chip Wynns, above.

The historic Arcade at the corner of 5th and Broadway was the perfect setting. That's owner Sharon Graves with Mayor Paxton. Sharon, the story goes, happened upon Paducah thanks to a riverboat tour, fell in love with our city and, despite living in California, she has renovated two LowerTown apartments into condos — The Colonial and the Frederick — and is now turning the Arcade into retail and office space. All of her units are gorgeous, by the way.

Super cute Christy Smith was one of...

...the many fabulous folks whoopin' it up on the dance floor — uh, street...

And Dwaine and Debbie Stigall had their Segways on hand for folks like Mayor Gerry Montgomery to spin around the block!

Kenn Gray and Susan Edwards let loose...

And Patience Renzulli ensured that Susan Ybarzabal attracted the absolute highest bidder during the auction.

Patience's strategy worked! The auction brought in more than $10,000! Many thanks to City Commission candidate Carol Gault for purchasing the iList Paducah/Sassy Sophisticate Gourmet Catering Blog-tail party! See the complete auction item list, here.

Here are more party pix:

Congratulations to David Boggs, above, with the Mayor and Lucy Paxton. David put the whole shin-dig together! Well done!

New Four Rivers Biz Journal!

The July issue of the Four Rivers Business Journal came out the other day. It's available around town and also online. I write an Internet column for it, which is way fun. Except at the end when I have to make it fit the print word count. That's not fun at all.

Anyway, my current column focuses on one of my favorite subjects: blogs. I love blogs. And I love fellow bloggers. This column shows local examples of how blogs can be good for business. So there's lots of great info from Patience Renzulli's Patience-please, Ashley Sanders' First Impressions Maternity & Baby, Donna-Maria Walker's Not-A-Cog Blog, Lew Jetton's PATS Pause, Michael Cochran's MHT Director, Kari and Kijsa's Designing for Life and the lovely Laura Thornton's Laura K at the Bay.

While the current column talks about why business folks might want to start a blog, the next one will focus on how to get started and tips from local bloggers. If you have a business blog and want to share some of your insights, please send me an an email! My deadline is July 7.

By the way, iList Paducah maintains a list of all local blogs. Let me know if we're missing yours!

New Posh!

The July-August edition of Posh came out this week, with Lake Living as the theme. Inside you'll see photos of great lake houses, including the homes of Paul and Jeanne Price, Ronald and Wanda Higgins and Tom and Ashley Shadoan. Also inside: a feature on hottie jewel maker Jimi Gwinn and a great mango salsa recipe from Bette Burrus and Bill Gary III of Green Turtle Bay Resort! So pick one up or view it online!

DJUK: Maximum Level of Good Times

When Joshua Comley wanted to surprise girlfriend Andrea Ivey on her 25 birthday, he did two super cute things. He rented the top of Di Fratelli's for a little throw-down with local and out-of-town guests. And he hired DJ Urban Kobbb to spin the tunes.

"DJUK helped our party reach a maximum level of good times," says the very cute Comley. "He really played to the room, he knew exactly when he needed to go upbeat and exactly when to go down tempo. I couldn't have asked for more. I look forward to hiring DJ Urban Kobbb again and will recommend him to anyone with any event."

Here's some party pix from Josh — look how cute everyone is! If you'd like to hire DJUK for your event, just send him an email!

Quilt Show: Two Thimbles Up!

Negotiations went right up until 2:30 p.m. today, but evidently enough of the right people, including the Mayor, promised the gorgeous Meredith Schroeder that they'd do enough of the right things to make the 2009 American Quilter’s Society Quilt Show super cute. Convinced, Meredith gave Paducah two thimbles up for next year's 25th anniversary show. Yippee!

"We never wanted to leave," Meredith told a packed audience in the City Commission Chambers today at 3 p.m. (That's Convention Center chair Jim Sigler and City Manager Jim Zumwalt framing my really bad photo.) The problem was that the Big E and the Convention Center were, as we all know, not cute. The Mayor, City Commissioners and the Big E/Convention Center folks say that everything will be fixed and ready in time so that the quilters will have a fitting place to show their gorgeous quilts and a lovely place to lay their gorgeous heads at night.

Big huge stand-up applause followed Meredith's very sweet dramatic pause before giving us the good news.

Lots of other media folks were there, too. There's Meredith with The Heartland's Carly O'Keefe and the fabulous Ro Morse.

And cute, cute, cute Lauren Adams of WPSD-TV interviewing the world-fabulous quilter Caryl Fallert.

Congratulations, everyone! Whew.

My Way Cast Announced

Cute, cute, cute Michael Cochran posted the cast list for My Way, a musical tribute to Frank Sinatra, set for a September debut at the Market House Theatre. Congrats to the cast! If you click the link, you'll see other shows Michael is casting for.

Deciding on the casts isn't so easy. To get a sense of what he has to go through, check out Michael's blog! Look for his June 19 post, in particular. Very interesting behind-the-scene info, which I just love about his blog!

I Love My Job, Part 2

I just happened to check my MySpace messages after posting the piece below, and low and behold, there was one from this week's iDate himself, Matt Valentine. Too cute. And this is before he knew about all the emails flooding my inbox about him.

I'm thrilled that the iDate of the Week column is such a hit. We're always looking for folks to participate — it's a good way to promote your projects and favorite causes. If you'd like to be added to the the list, send me an email and we'll do something cute, cute, cute!

I Love My Job

Emails like this crack me up. I get them all the time. If you didn't see this week's iDate, go here. Matt Valentine is DARLING. You can meet him Tuesday, July 1, at his Etcetera Coffeehouse art show. 6:30 p.m. And then you can ask him all the questions you want!

Grab Those Last Few Tickets!

Tonight's Bubble Q is almost a sell-out! And no wonder — everyone wants to see what's going on in the historic Arcade Building at 5th and Broadway! The shindig starts at 6:30 p.m. Call 444.864 for tickets now — they're $50 each.

And, remember to bid on this most-excellent auction item:

Rotaract Rocks!

I love the Rotary Club. My dad has always been very active in this international service organization, and my mom, I have to say, is somewhat of a Rotary groupie. In fact, when I put her in charge of my San Francisco love life in my mid-30s, she insisted that I join the local chapter to meet men.

So I did.

And I'll just be honest. It was mostly old men. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just wasn't my target market. However, there were a few young members who became very good friends. And I ended up taking mom and dad to a meeting one time when they came to visit.

Here's my mom: "Gosh, they're old."

Here's me: "Yeah, thanks. And I'm out about $500 in membership dues with nary a date."

The best part the whole thing, though, was when my old college boyfriend and now-husband Googled me a few years ago — 20 years had passed since graduation, and luckily the Internet had come along — my name and my dad's name came up on the San Francisco club's Web site because of that visit.

That Google result helped assure my now-husband that the other Mary Thorsby hits he'd come across did, indeed, add up to the same Mary Thorsby he dated a very long time ago. Voilá, love connection re-connected. And, in fact, one of my Rotary friends even came to our wedding.

So as far as I'm concerned, Rotary rocks and I recommend it to anyone. Especially single folks.

OK, so that's the very long set up for this piece of news: The Paducah Rotary chapter recently chartered a new Rotaract Club for young people, ages 18-30. While it's certainly not a singles group — and they'll probably get mad at me for implying that it is because it's totally not — I'm just saying that if you're in that age group and single (or married, but I ain't worried 'bout y'all), you should join.

And just look who cute they are:

That's Brian Settle, Jessica Zaugg, Justin Barr (PR/marketing chair, Emily Scott (service/social chair), Emily Cahen, Crystal Spurlock, Crystal Jeter (president), Chuck Sexton (vice president), Christopher Jeter (sergeant at arms), Carrie Moore (secretary), Lauren Wallace, Clay Wallace and cute cute, cute Jessica Byassee. Other members include Jayme Brockman, cute, cute, cute Laqueta Perry, April Wolfrom, John Pace (treasurer) and Sean McGuire.

The group's next meeting is 6 p.m., Monday, July 7, at the McCracken County Library. Meetings are the first Monday of the month, followed by a social gathering — yoo-hoo! — typically held on the third Thursdays. For more info, call Justin Barr, 725.1667, or send him an email.

Congratulations to these super cute folks for taking the initiative to form this great group! And when an old flame Googles you one of these days, I hope he or she finds you here!

Separated at Birth?

Is it just us, or is a shopping trip to HB & Co. and a presidential nomination the only things separating Oscar Gamble from John McCain?

Speaking of Leadership

Congratulations to Leadership Paducah Class 21! This group simply rocked, showing amazing creativity, initiative and energy by putting on one of the most fun events this year: a Karaoke Contest to raise money for the Family Service Society's accessible playground project at Noble Park. That's Hottie Stacy "Brickhouse" Thomas above, with the Stacettes, kicking off the whole shindig.

Anyway, class members intended to raise $15,000 as their project. Not surprisingly, they overachieved, raising $18,911 for the Family Service Society! Congratulations, Class 21! Well done!

New Ad Offering

We've added a new advertising option for iList Paducah — little text ads. They're right under the iBlog section on the left side of our weekly email and our Web site. The idea is to share a snappy line or two of whatever it is that you're wanting to promote, with a link to your site, email or even a PDF for more info.

We have three up now — one for Rowton Indoor Tennis, one for the Fred Paxton Fund Run and one for Paducah Yoga Center.

Let me know if you have something to promote and you'd like to give it a try!

Look Who's Wearing a Super Cute iList Paducah T-shirt!

It's cute, cute, cute Julie Folsom of Paducah Remediation Services, modeling the blue Bella iList Paducah T-shirt for women. We also have pink ones for little girls and purple and gray ones for women and for men.

Super cute! If you'd like one, send an email and we'll hook you up!

Gathering at the Stranded Cow

Sun reporter Laqueta Perry did a nice job of covering the Stranded Cow's last shindig, held yesterday afternoon. Owner Grace Clemency and her staff offered food, drinks and, best of all, friendship to a nice big crowd of fun folks. And, as the lovely Laqueta reports, everyone left with one of Grace's super cute cow figurines.

This is the one I brought home:

Check out Laqueta's story in today's paper. And congratulations and thank you to Grace and team for a great year. We're eager to see what neat project you do next!

iSurf Free TV!

iList Paducah sponsor isurfpaducah.com is giving away a 42-inch plasma TV! Just log onto the site between now and the end of July and you'll be eligible to win! The drawing is Aug. 1.

Endowment Offers Emergency Assistance

The McCracken County Community Career Endowment is pleased to announce the availability of emergency funds for full- and part-time students enrolled at a post secondary educational facility. If you're interested — or you know someone interested — in a little extra help, call Executive Director Judy Calhoun, 444.6962.

Goodbye, Stranded Cow....

A bunch of us received a very sad email yesterday from our lovely friend Grace Clemency. The Stranded Cow, which she opened just over a year ago, is now closed for business. The '37 Flood sandwiches. The chopped salads. The homemade bread pudding. The sneaking in of champagne and sipping it from coffee cups. It's over, and it's a huge, huge, huge loss for the LowerTown neighborhood and, frankly, for all of Paducah. For Grace and her team to have come in and saved the famous Cow House and let us sit there for hours just hanging out and enjoying their company — it was just the best.

"...we wonder what tomorrow will bring for us and Grace," her team wrote in the email. "However, we will always be able to say with dignity and pride that we worked at the Stranded Cow Cafe, for it has certainly left us with the feeling that we've been a part of something special. We'll never work for anyone who has been as much fun or appreciative as Grace Clemency."

Something special, indeed. If you've loved the Stranded Cow, Grace and her team as much as we all have, please join us Sunday afternoon, June 22, for a final whoop-de-doo. No time is set yet, so check back here or send Grace an email. And bring champagne and your own flutes. Unless you prefer to sip it from coffee cups for old time's sake.

UPDATE: The Sunday gathering at The Stranded Cow is set for 5 p.m. Please plan to stop by and share the love!

iList Paducah Welcomes Two New Sponsors!

We're thrilled to welcome two new sponsors to iList Paducah this week: ZebraGraphics and Watson Woodworking!

If you need a Web site, logo, brochure and other marketing materials — and if you're in any kind of business, you just do — check out ZebraGraphics. Steve Hagan and his team rock. They do gorgeous print and online design, along with direct mail, signs, displays and anything else you need to promote your company.

In fact, several iList Paducah sponsors are Zebra clients, including Medical Spa Seven, Donna-Maria Walker, Her Executive Coach and the logo and blog format for the 40/50 Group. Along with providing great products, the Zebra team has great tips on how to make the most of them. So check out their site and give 'em a call! 443.4771.

Artists of another kind, Dale and LaVaughn Watson own Watson Woodworking in Gilbertsville. Dale has 30 years of experience in home construction and carpentry work and, after just retiring from the Department of Corrections, he's now in the custom carpentry business.

He's busy building beautiful custom bookcases, entertainment centers, cabinets, quilt chests and other pieces out of various types of wood. They're also an authorized Haas Cabinets dealer. The Watsons provide free estimates, so visit their Web site — be sure to click their Photo Gallery link at the top — and give them a call! 270.362.9055.

Meet our iList Paducah PR Intern

She is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful — no doubt about it! Meet Ashley Horn, our iList Paducah public relations intern. A brand-new graduate of Murray State's Department of Journalism and Mass Communications, Ashley will help us ensure that everyone in Paducah and McCracken County who surfs the Web — and likes to do fun things besides surfing the Web — will know about our Web site and our weekly Wednesday email.

Along with helping us with outreach and promotion, Ashley also landed a position with The Healing Journey, a doctor's office in the Noble Park area.

Welcome aboard, Ashley!

Lessons From Oprah

Helen Gurley Brown delivered our commencement speech at Stephens College (Columbia, Mo.) 22, gulp, years ago — many of her lessons I still remember today. Just the other day, Oprah inspired new grads at their Stanford commencement. I suspect 22 years from now, they'll remember her lessons, too.

DJ Urban Kobbb to DeeJay DiFrats!

Word just in that DJ Urban Kobbb has been hired to deejay a private party this Saturday night, upstairs at Di Fratelli!

Young Joshua Comley loves his fabulous girlfriend, Andrea Ivey, so much, that he's requested some bossa nova lounge beats to help celebrate her 25th birthday. (Look how cute they are!)

Along with being extremely flattered, DJUK is still making good on his offer to burn custom CDs for folks who enjoyed his LowerTown Festival deejaying. He's made six so far. Send us an email if you'd like one, too. They're free. Because he's so hot and sweet.

Spin on with your bad self, DJ Urban Kobbb!

Congrats, Cody!

iList Paducah Intern Cody Arant's fun piece on Crash! Comics was picked up in the June/July 2008 issue of Tourism. The Kentucky Publishing folks often run our stories — in fact, our piece on The Clay Chameleon is in the June 12 issue of West KY News. So keep a look out for them!

Sushi Candy

She is just too cool. I'm talking about Iris Shreve Garrott, of course, the world's coolest librarian. Evidently she's so cool that she knew to set up a McCracken County Library booth at OMG!!!con a few weekends ago, and she gave out candy sushi to the kiddies. I mean. Really. She says there's no recipe — of course not. She's so creative, she just makes things up as she goes! But here's what she does say:

"Just cut the twinkies and rice crispy treats into slices and wrap with strips of fruit rollups... the twizzlers pieces are stuck into the center of the twinkie cream and the gummy sharks are wrapped onto the rice crispy treats... FUN...!!"

Iris, you are fun. Fun, fun, fun, no doubt about it. That's her photo above, by the way. See it, and more like it, on her flickr page!

Recycle Your Way to Great Prizes!

By Cody Arant, iList Paducah Intern

I’m sure you’ve heard what Madonna and Justin Timberlake have to say. “We’ve only got four minutes to save the world,” their new single proclaims. You have a little more time than that, but you can definitely take steps to save the world by participating in the Greater Paducah Sustainability (GPS) project’s new recycling push.

The GPS project’s RecycleNow initiative is dedicated to developing and implementing a long-term recycling program in Paducah and McCracken County. GPS recently kicked off an incentive program to encourage people to participate.

Under the new incentive program, you can earn tickets for a raffle from now until Dec. 1. The grand prize in the raffle is a weeklong trip to Kissimmee, Fla., along with a free rental car from Chip Wynn Jeep and a $500 gas card. Other prizes include a flat screen TV, three iPod Shuffles, artwork from LowerTown artists and jewelry from Michelson's Jewelers.

One hour of work at a RecycleNow event is worth one ticket. Recruiting a regular member is worth two tickets. Recruiting a business member is worth three tickets and recruiting sponsors is worth a whopping 10 tickets! Every $5 donated is worth a ticket.

Check out the recyclenowpaducah.com Web site for details. The incentive program is sponsored in part by Aaron’s Sales and Leasing, Michelson's Jewelers and iList Paducah sponsors Chip Wynn Jeep and Paducah Bank.

Surrender to SereniTea!

Bizzy and I must have just missed each other at SereniTea last week. Just two months old, SereniTea is a super cute, cute, cute lunch place and tea shop and features totally darling gifts and a little girl's tea room complete with bags, hats and the cutest little-girl boas! Boas! I didn't see the big-girl boas, but I suspect they're in there somewhere.

SereniTea is owned by certified tea expert Erin Coale, show above with her mom, the very, very lovely Anne Gwinn. Anne's other child is equally all entrepreneur-y: hottie Jimi Gwinn, the famous jewel designer.

Anyway, check it out for lunch, shopping and private parties. With boas.

SereniTea is located at 121 North 5th St., in the old Elk's Lodge. Which is pretty funny when you think about it. I don't reckon the Elks served many pretty cups of hibiscus-flavored teas during their meetings. And likely not while wearing boas. But, then again, you never know.

Anyway, read Bizzy's fabulous review, and, while you're at it, her funny experience with Wii Fit! And, by the way, congrats to SereniTea for two bloggers' shout-outs in less than a week!

Get Your Gas Money from JPEC!

Here's a nice gift from the fine folks at Jackson Purchase Energy Corp., one of our iList Paducah sponsors. Be among the first 150 to register at JPEC's annual meeting on Tuesday, June 24, and you'll receive $10! That should cover your gas!

What Are You Doing Thursday, April 16?

The fabulous Debbie Wattier of the Carson Center has staked out Thursday, April 16, 2009, for the next Wine Tasting and Auction. So mark your calendars, and don't be planning some big ol' shin-dig for that night. Debbie needs us at this one!

Destination: Accreditation!

Congratulations are in order again to Sales Director Fowler Black, Executive Director Mary Hammond, Marketing Director Rosemarie Steele, Executive Assistant Natalie Phillips and TDSM Agency Consultant Robin Malpass of the Paducah-McCracken County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). The Fab Five earned accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP) — meaning that this tip-top tourism team has attained a significant measure of excellence.

The Paducah CVB joins an elite group of those having met the rigorous standards of industry accreditation. Only 43 CVBs in the United States had attained this status when the Paducah CVB's application was submitted. Louisville CVB is the only other accredited DMO in Kentucky.

Tour on, CVB!

Knitting in Public All Over the Place!

World Wide Knit in Public Day was a huge success Saturday in Paducah, with knitters, crocheters, needlepointers and other needle artists gathering in several locations throughout the city all day long. In the afternoon, Shane Martin, Linda Lasco, Linda Riley and Ruth Wood enjoyed stitching and sunshine at the historic Texaco Station in LowerTown.

Shane took up knitting just two years ago, while Linda Lasco is a well-known fiber artist.

Linda Riley worked on a washcloth and Ruth whipped up a cute little girl's poncho.

Congratulations to Deb Lyons, Valerie Pollard and With Ewe in Mind and the rest of the group for putting together such a great day. If you missed it, you can see the schedule here.

June 12. June 12. June 12. Not May 30.

Well rats. It had to happen eventually, and today was the day. In our iList Paducah email this morning, we had May 30 for the Girls, Guys Gallery and Giving event at the Yeiser Art Center, right there, front and center, as one of our iList hottest events. May 30 was soooo last week. May 30 is wrong. The date was right everywhere else — in the body of the email, on our Web site — but oh so wrong at the very top of the email where everybody always looks.

Aaaaack!

So we whipped up and sent out another email with the correct date. The event is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the Yeiser. $15 for all-you-can-drink refreshments and all-you-can-flirt cute people, especially those fab Double Ds gals. So it's Thursday, June 12. Not May 30. June 12.

By the way, if you're not on our email list and you'd like to be — after all, we do generally get things right — just go the site and hit the subscribe button at the top. We promise not to share your email with anybody else, no matter how cute they may be.

Another Reason to Love Paducah: Second Saturdays

LowerTown has some hot new exhibits planned for Saturday, June 14 — the neighborhood's Second Saturdays day when shop hours are noon to 9 p.m. It's a great way to fill a Saturday — walking around, visiting the various shops and galleries, getting a bite to eat or something cool to drink...and finding great gifts for Father's Day!

Be sure to stop by STUDIO mars, 418 North 7th St., starting at noon. World-famous super hottie painter Paul Lorenz has a gorgeous new show called Esperto e Riservato made up of small works on canvas like the one above, Blue with Sunrise.

And then super cute, cute, cute Bill Renzulli has new pieces in his Skyscapes show at Gallery 5, 805 Madison St. (The entrance is on 8th St.) In fact, everyone is invited to his reception this Saturday, 5-8 p.m.!

Also on Saturday, visit Aspire Arts at 611 North 6th St. Janet and Jay O’Rourke have a gorgeous glass display from LowerTown glass artist Terry Pagel. Stop by and meet him and view his fantastic pieces.

Another great stop: Julie Shaw's Aphrodite Gallery. Julie has some guy-type stuff — knives decorated with malachite, marble, wood and turquoise and whatnots.

And of course, Julie's fabulous jewels. Because, really, what could make dad happier than a happily bejeweled mom? Or step mom? Can I get an Amen? And this necklace?

World Wide Knit in Public Day! In Paducah!

Leave it to Deb Lyons to keep us living on the edge! Thanks to her tightly knit networking skills, the knitters, crocheters and needlepointers of Paducah will dominate our fine city this Saturday, June 14!

A visit to the Yarn Harlot led Deb to the Web site for World Wide Knit in Public Day. And, with a few calls to her closely knit pals Linda Lasco and Valerie Pollard of Market Square Coffee — then a call to With Ewe In Mind and several other local hot spots — Paducah is now officially on the list!

The action takes place all day Saturday, June 14. So grab your yarn and thread and join your needle-y colleagues throughout the day. Here's the schedule:

8-10 a.m.: Market Square Coffee, 118 South 2nd St., weaving demonstration
10 a.m.-3 p.m.: With Ewe In Mind, 2223 Broadway, door prizes and special discounts
3-5 p.m.: Texaco Station, LowerTown, bring lawn chair or blanket
5-7 p.m.: Stranded Cow Cafe, 527 North 6th St., open for dinner!
7-9 p.m.: Gazebo Downtown Paducah, 2nd & Broadway, music — bring your chair
9-10 p.m.: Etcetera, 320 North 6th St., end the day with tea or coffee

Knit on! In public!

Lead On, Leadership Paducah!

Congratulations to Leadership Paducah Class 21! Last Thursday, group members graduated from this excellent Chamber program, facilitated by the fabulous Stacy Thomas. Among the group's many highlights: Karaoke Night, in which they raised more than $3,000 for a handicapped-accessible playground in the works for Noble Park. The event was a huge success, reflected the group's tremendous creativity and leadership and, I think, should be an annual fundraiser. It was just plain fun.

Class members include (1st row, bottom) Tracy Bensley, John Pace, Jared Quint, Tammy Partain, Jason Young and Linda Dungey;

(2nd row) Cindy Medford, Dawn Mallory, Eric Watts and Michael Elliott;

(3rd row) Daniel Brown, Marra McMillan, Kathy Keeney, Christie Hughes and Tonya Sensing;

(4th Row) Pam Truitt, Jane Torres and Jackie Wagner;

(5th row) Adam Chutsz, Keith Jennings, David Humphrey, Mellisa Duncan and Ronda Hays and...

(6th row top) Mary Evans, Brian Waltmon and William Edwards.

You'll find more info on the program here. Two thumbs' up! It's a great way to make new contacts and learn about new opportunities in our community.

Tax-Deductible Cocktails at the Yeiser Art Center!

It's a cocktail party any Sex and the City star would love! It's Girls, Guys, Gallery & Giving, set for Thursday, June 12, at the ripe ol' cocktail time of 5:30 p.m.

And it benefits the wonderful work of the Yeiser Art Center. So gussy up and get your wine and beer on. For a tax-deductible $15, you'll enjoy drinks, appetizers, friendship and awesome art from The Wastelanders! (How often do you enjoy $15 worth of drinks and get to credit it as a charitable contribution? Legally, I mean.)

Girls, Guys, Gallery & Giving is sponsored by the Double Ds social group, including the fabulously gorgeous Betty Edwards (she's supplying the wine!), Debbie Sherrell, Tina Mundy, Susan Gaffney-Evans and Maria Wilke. The food is thanks to Rafferty's and Pasta House. See you there!

Stranded for Dinner? Try the Stranded Cow!

Great news! The Stranded Cow, already extremely popular for breakfast and lunch, is now serving dinner on Friday and Saturday nights! Yep, from 5-8 p.m., we can stop in and enjoy:

The Stranded Cow is located at 527 North 6th St., 575.0020.

Check It Out!

The Paducah Poetry Jam is back and set for Friday, July 25, at the Market House Theatre. A possible Youth Jam (ages 13-17) will be held at 5 p.m., with the Adult Jam at 7 p.m.

The Paducah Poetry Jam was created by the Interracial Women's and Men's groups to promote literacy and diversity through spoken word. To submit your poem or prose, please email 5thriver@gmail.com. Deadline: June 30.

Cody's Crash! Comics Coverage

Just another quick plug for iList Paducah Intern Cody Arant's new story on Crash! Comics. It's totally super cute! Although I'm sure I'm supposed to say that it's a feature story worthy of the New York Times. And it's totally that, too, considering the big crush the Times has on Paducah.

Anyway, have a look — and stay tuned for Cody's iList PlayList story appearing this Wednesday, recapping the Sophomore Lounge Showcase he caught while visiting his gal pal in Louisville. Oh great. Now I'm exposing his personal life for all to see. Bad intern boss. Bad intern boss.

Race for the Schooner: We FEEL You, Big Brown

I highly recommend this particular refreshment after a run:

It's an internationally famous Fish Market schooner, served early and often in Old Town, Alexandria, right outside of Washington, DC. It's quite the efficient way to rehydrate because you don't have to flag down the bartender as often for refills. And if you order a schooner of Blue Moon, you get a healthy slice of Vitamin C on the side.

My husband and I spent this past Saturday afternoon there recovering...

...after running (well, with the tens of thousands of people there, it was really more like shuffling) the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure that morning.

It was totally cool. Condoleezza Rice, who lost her mom to breast cancer, gave us a pre-run pep-talk. I wonder if Paducah could support such a run.

Anyway, as we watched the Belmont that afternoon with our medicinally rehydrating schooners, it was absolutely clear what happened to the favored four-legged runner.

Big Brown was running so hard that he ran right into the slowpoke horse in front of him. The result: a snootful of horse hiney. No wonder he was done for the day. And after dodging in and out among the extremely crowded Komen race, we could relate. We feel you, Big Brown.

Wonder if anyone thought to give Big Brown a big ol' post-run snootful of schooner. Bet he would have appreciated it.

Mayor's Reception: Hot, Hot, Hot!

Our reception for Mayor Paxton last Thursday evening was hot, hot, hot, no doubt about it! And it wasn't only because of all the hotties here, including the very darling Nestor and Laura Nunez, owners of the soon-to-open Argentinean Grill on Broadway. That's them, talking with Lucy Paxton, the mayor's lovely wife. They've just moved here from Uruguay, of all places, to open the restaurant.

And that Handsome Captain of Multiple Industries Ronnie James was here, too...

...along with these gorgeous gals: Donna-Maria Walker, Monica Bilak, Kathleen Sullivan Cockrel and Mary Foley.

But the real reason that the event was so hot: Our air conditioner is on the fritz. Nice timing, huh?

The sweaty heat, however, did nothing to dampen the party spirit! More than 100 festive folks gathered to hear from the mayor, enjoy lots of great food by the lovely Mindy Carroll and rehydrate with a refreshment or two.

Here's a look — and for more info on Mayor Paxton, please visit paxtonformayor.com!

Mayor Paxton reviews key city initiatives and future plans.

Hotties Art Feather and Barbara Jones

Mary Hammond, Alex Roman and Sarah Bynum

Jay Downs Siska and Ike Erwin

Ken Wheeler and the gorgeous Leah Hagel of Medical Spa 7 and possible future iDate of the Week — I'm always bugging her about it, but don't you think she should do it?

Barbara Livingston and Mary Dyer

Weezie Katterjohn (whose name I love) and Harvey Sadow

Congratulations, Mayor! And many thanks, everyone, for coming, staying and celebrating — despite the temperature!

Laurel Foundation: Rally at Renee's Tonight!

Three-and-a-half pages full of live and silent auction items await at tonight's Rally at Renee's, 7 p.m., 2946 Cairo Rd. The cause? The Laurel Foundation, which raises money for Kosair's Pediatric Oncology Unit, CureSearch and Camp Quality.

This 501c3 was created by Laurel Dortch and her parents Jay and Cheryl Dortch of Louisville and her grandparents Nat and Jo Dortch of Paducah. On Dec. 13, 2004, Laurel, then just 5, was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer called PNET (Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor). She spent most of the next nine months at Kosair Children's Hospital where she endured three surgeries and 14 chemo and 25 radiation treatments. The good news is that Laurel has had healthy scans since Aug. 22, 2006.

Listen to Kate Lochte's interview with Jay Dortch here! And be sure to head out to Renee's tonight to meet this special little girl and to support this great cause!

SATC: Go!

OK, I have several things to say about the Sex and the City movie, which I saw appropriately during cocktail hour yesterday, with cocktail pals Donna-Maria Walker and Mary Hammond. I have several things to say about it, especially about Carrie's wedding — which may or may not have happened, I'm not saying — yet. I will say: GO! It's a fun movie and so great to see the gals and their clothes again!

Not the shoes, though. Bizzy blogs the truth. Those were hideous.

Watch the Evening of Performance on Channel 11!

Did you miss the 2nd Annual Evening of Performance at the Carson Center? Then catch it on Government Channel 11 this week and next. This annual program, sponsored by the City of Paducah and the Paducah Human Rights Commission (PHRC), celebrates the city's diversity and provides the PHRC with an opportunity to further educate citizens about the services that the commission offers.

More than 20 local musicians, singers, dancers and actors shared their talents during the May 30 event, which attracted about 425 attendees.

The 2nd Annual Evening of Performance will air:

Friday, June 6: 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Saturday, June 7: 9 p.m.
Monday, June 9: 11 a.m.
Friday, June 13: 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Saturday June 14: 9 p.m.

"We felt that it is important to make people aware of the Paducah Human Rights Commission and its services," says West Kentucky Community and Technical College Television Production Coordinator Tom Butler. "I can't think of a better way to promote the commission than by playing the Evening of Performance on Channel 11. This should help to raise community awareness about the PHRC. And, we love to have great programming on the access channels here in Paducah."

Government 11 is the governmental access channel of the City of Paducah. For event photos, have a lookie here!

Another Reason to Love Paducah: An Enchanted Evening

The waterfront is the place to be this Saturday, June 7, for the Paducah Symphony's Outdoor POPS Concert featuring the fabulously beautiful and enchanting Audra Hall of Market House Theatre fame! The gal who rocked Annie Get Your Gun, Beauty and the Beast and this year's Charity League Follies will sing My Heart Will Go On (watch out, Celine!) along with several other great numbers.

Not only has Audra performed at the Market House for the past 11 years, but she has represented McCracken County at the Louisville State Fair, singing for an audience of more than 2,000. She also sang on the stage of the original Grand Ole Opry at the age of 13 in one of her first competitions, placing 8th out of 175 contestants. Audra won Star Search when it came to Paducah, and she often sings in the local Telethon of Stars. She's come a long way since performing in front of her grandparents' fireplace, with just an empty paper towel roll and a red foam ball for a microphone!

The June 7 concert's theme — “An Enchanted Evening” — will be just that. Thomas G. Wilson, Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of Colorado Springs (he looks cute!), will guest conduct the Paducah Symphony Orchestra. Highlights include Die Fledermaus Overture, South Pacific, A Symphonic Scenario, I’m Flying from Peter Pan, Over the Rainbow, Defying Gravity from Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Moonlight Serenade, In the Mood and songs from The Sound of Music.

Call 444.0065 for tickets, table reservations and to register for the truck raffle, bring your picnics and gather down at the foot of Broadway at 5:30 p.m. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

Cody's First Stories

Is anyone else having difficulty keeping up with everything? Anyone? Oh, everyone? Good. I'm not alone. Even with the help of our cute, cute, cute iList Paducah intern, Cody Arant, I'm still catching up with stuff.

I meant to mention last Wednesday that Cody has two stories featured on ilistpaducah.com. He helped with a piece on the 2nd Annual Evening of Performance held last Friday, and he did a super nice job on the DJ Urban Kobbb Band Brawl finale.

Look for his feature on Crash! Comics this Wednesday! Thanks, Cody!

UPDATE: The Crash! Comics story is posted!

Also During the Festival

Folks are still talking about the Lowertown Art & Music Festival, held over Memorial Day weekend. Among the many great things going on: The painting of this fab mural at Studio e. Artist Teri Moore spent most of the weekend perched on scaffolding, paint brush in hand, whipping up these gorgeous outlines of Studio e owner Emily Young in her various yoga/pilates/goddess poses.

That's Emily in the mirror, with ever faithful sidekick, Jack.

Stop by 415 North 7th St., and have a peek. And if something's ailing you, tell Emily. She's also a licensed physical therapist. She'll fix it.

The Last Paducah Video

Well, actually, I don't believe this will be Aynex Mercado's last Paducah video. She may have made the move to Maryland, but I suspect (hope) she'll be back. Anyway, watch her latest — not last — Paducah video here, in which she poses this little ditty: "The answer is 'yes.' What is the question?"

2nd Annual Evening of Performance

This past Friday, 20 or so of our area's best singers (like the Nia Dancers of Paducah, above), dancers, poets, actors and musicians tore up the Carson Center stage in the 2nd Annual Evening of Performance. This free community event, hosted by the City of Paducah and the Paducah Human Rights Commission (PHRC), is designed to celebrate the city's diversity and provide the PHRC with an opportunity to further educate citizens about the services that the commission offers.

It was a fantastic, free evening of fun — with intermission desserts created by cute, cute, cute Mindy Carroll. Here are a few more photos. Find background on the performers here and more photos here!
