See You Tonight!

There's just no shortage of great things to do in Paducah for New Year's Eve — and we've got 'em all listed here. At least we think we do. If we're missing anything, just send an email and we'll add it to the list.

My top pick: DJ Urban Kobbb, of course! At 10 p.m., he'll start spinning in the new year with some hot new music at Doe's Eat Place, followed by G.I.J. (above). Reiek Havoc and Purvis. You'll find other great music at all the usual places, plus the Wastelanders are doing a neat art show.

So don't be sittin' home tonight — let's bring in the new year together!

Duel-Free Mayor is In!

Yesterday at noon, Mayor Bill Paxton became Mayor Bill Paxton again as Judge Jeff Hines swore him in for another four years. I'll just be honest. I'm crazy about the mayor. He's super, super sweet, he's absolutely devoted to Paducah and he works really, really hard when he could much more easily be lounging around a Florida beach with a bourbon and water in his hand.

So, of course, we were there to witness the swearing in, and were quite amused at the last few bits of the oath. Along with swearing that he'll be faithful and true to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Mayor Paxton also had to swear to this:

"...I, being a citizen of this state, have not fought a duel with deadly weapons within this state, nor out of it, nor have I sent or accepted a challenge to fight a duel with deadly weapons, nor have I acted as second in carrying a challenge, nor aided or assisted any person thus offending, so help me God."

So head's up: If you'd like to be mayor of Paducah one day, there will be no dueling for you. At least until after you're sworn in and signed the paperwork.

Congratulations, Mayor Paxton!

The $10 Terra Cottage

I first learned about the lovely Terra family when Google Alerts sent a link to this blog post in which Victoria Terra talks about the Artist Relocation Program and the prospects of moving her artsy family from upstate New York to Paducah.

That was in January 2008 and by March, the Terras had plunked down 10 whole dollars for this incredible (yet dilapidated home) located at 514 North 7th Street.

Husband Michael and their 13-year-old daughter Xan (pronounced Zan), packed up a few things — house renovation tools mostly — and drove to Paducah in this big, blue hippy van, for which they paid another $25 (which Xan painted and decorated with Make Coffee Not War stickers), stayed with the Renzullis and went about redoing the whole house which, not surprisingly, was slated for demolition.

"We had to present a proposal giving our timeline, budget and our business pro forma before we could get the house," Michael says. "It was 48 pages long. But we did it!"

Did it, they did — though there's still a bit of renovation yet to do. In fact, Michael documents every painstaking step in his own blog, The Impossible Before Lunch.

The good news is that the Terras are now open for business, with Michael selling his very fun "emotionally engaging" ceramics in the first-floor gallery/studio — perfect for anyone who could use a smile.

Look how cute these gravy boats are!

And these happy little do-dads are called Squints.

They're open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. every day, but you might want to call first, 518.858.3605. "We'll always have a cookie and a cup of something for anyone who stops by," Michel says.

In fact, the Terras plan to open a cookie bar in the gallery, with a full view right into Michael's ceramics studio so that anyone can sit and enjoy a cookie while watching the artist in action. Super cute!

iDates of the Week: Gettin' Hitched!

Yep, it's official. On Christmas night, iDate of the Week No. 6, the devastatingly handsome Jay Page, got down on one knee, in front of his parents, his grandparents and her parents, and presented iDate of the Week No. 41, the incredibly beautiful Lauren Adams...

...with a tiny box on a crystal plate surrounded by rose petals...

...and popped the magic question! MzLauren doesn't remember exactly what happened right after, but is pretty sure that the head nodding and tears were a clear signal that the answer was yes!

With that, Jay Page, a Paducah restaurant entrepreneur, popped open a bottle of Veuve Clicqout, followed by two more.

"I've worked in Georgia and Kentucky and have missed out on so much with my family, including holidays," says Lauren, a WPSD-TV news reporter. "So the proposal was made even better by the fact that my parents were able to be there and share in our special moment."

No date yet — likely September or October, and they'll marry in Lauren's hometown of Reading, Penn.

Congratulations to Lauren and Jay, our first engaged iDates of the Week! Cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it!

Oh, maybe we should start a new column? iFiance of the Week? Hum....

January Biz Journal

The January 2009 Four Rivers Business Journal is out. My column this time offers suggestions from local experts on ways to refresh your Web site and other online outreach. I have some great comments from Mason DeJarnett, sales manager, Mike Smith Auto Group — he has a new blog devoted to the line of Indian Motorcycles that Mike Smith sells in the old Hooper's location.

I also have comments from Sherri Goins of IVS, Louis Michelson of Michelson Jewelers, Darlene Dreyer of the Paducah Symphony (she talks about that sponsored email iList Paducah sent out publicizing the half-priced symphony tickets — it helped sell 300 tickets in a three-hour period) and, of course, the ever-fabulous Jeff French of ZebraGraphics.

If you're a Paducah Sun subscriber, you can download the publication today. If you're not a subscriber, just click on the image above to enlarge.

I'm always looking for column ideas! So if you're doing something interesting or unusual on the Web to promote your business, please send me an email and I'll try to highlight it next time!

12/26/2008

Of Course She Did!

I'm going to go out on a big ol' limb and suggest that this one proposed to this one!

I'm big fans of them both and, as our first engaged iDates of the Week, wish them much happiness! I will hop on this, investigative journalism style, and report back with more details shortly. Cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it!

Just a reminder that we'd love for you to help pick the Best of iList Paducah 2008!

The ever-popular iDate of the Week
The newly popular iPet of the Week
And the fun iList PlayList

Then look for the archives on the left-side of the page. From there, have a look around and either use the comment button below or just email us the headlines of your favorite stories.

Email or comment by Friday, and we’ll highlight the winners next Wednesday! Thank you for supporting iList Paducah!

Gifts in a Box

Just in case you missed it, we put together a handy dandy holiday gift guide the other week — a guide that men should use when buying gifts for women. We call it the iList Paducah Gift Guide to Meet Her Every Need. But women can use it, too!

The guide features products and services from our fabulous iList Paducah sponsors who recognize that if they want to reach folks, the Web's the way to go! And many offer some great discounts!

So please buy lots and lots of stuff from them and tell 'em iList Paducah sent you!

Wall-to-Wall Ro!

The amazingly talented Ro Morse has done it again — another great book celebrating our city is out, available for purchase and perfect for holiday gifts. It's Paducah Wall to Wall, a commemorative book on the completion and painting of three city blocks of floodwall murals in historic downtown Paducah.

The books are $10 and are available at the National Quilt Museum, Wildhair Studios, the River Heritage Museum and several other spots (see Web site)! Proceeds support future floodwall mural maintenance. For more info, call Ro Morse, 519.1321.

Congratulations, Ro! The book, by the way, is dedicated to Bill & Meredith Schroeder.

Grand Rivers: Southern Living Readers' Top Choice! Twice!

Back in July, the fab Laura K used her Web networking expertise, asking folks to vote for Grand Rivers, Ky., in the SouthernLiving.com Readers' Choice poll. We helped a bit with this blog post and on Twitter.

As usual, her efforts — along with lots of other outreach from the community — paid off! The results were announced the other day, with Grand Rivers ranking fourth in the most scenic view category and eighth in the best small town category.

"I don’t know how many people voted, but I do know that with a population of about 350, we are the smallest town (village) on the list," writes Kim Kraemer of the Grand Rivers Tourism Commission on her Kentucky Lake Views blog. "We are feeling the love in Grand Rivers."

Congratulations to Kim, Laura K and everyone in Grand Rivers!

Sunday's Ripple Effect

Maiden Alley Cinema was the site of one of the most fun art openings I've been to in awhile — Ripple Effect, created and organized by our beautiful French/Swiss LowerTown artist-in-residence Corinne Spielewoy. That's her, in front of one of the show's many gorgeous pieces — this one by Freda Fairchild.

You can read all about the show on iList Paducah, but the general idea was that Corinne would create a piece and have other artists create pieces in response to hers, and more artists, like the fab Nikki D. May (above) create pieces in response to those.

Here's Corrine with Ruth Badgett and her pieces — 25 artists, I think, ended up participating in the program — the art was just awesome. I wish I'd taken more photos, but you can see close ups on iList Paducah.

There was, of course, way-fun music....

Dancing with hottie poet Niaz Khadem....

Super cute Gabe Camacho with son Sebastian....

And the childhood game of "Telephone"...

...which served as an inspiration for the project.

And because art inspires art, everyone got in on the act by contributing to a group project.

Merci beaucoups to Corinne for visiting us! She'll be in Paducah until Jan. 1, so if you haven't met her, just send an email to the Paducah Arts Alliance and they'll make the connection. Totally super cute!

Submit an Event: 2009!

Nikki and I are adding events to our iList Paducah 2009 calendar. You'll see them if you look for the calendar icon on the top left of our home page. It's now on December — ah, cuz it's December — but you'll see a forward arrow and a backward arrow.

What? You've never noticed that? Well, it's been there, like, forever!

Anyway, forward takes you forward — cuz we're just crazy like that. And backward takes you backward. But we've already been there.

What we need is more stuff for forward. So if you have events for January and forward, just click the submit an event button at the top of the site, third button over, and you get a handy-dandy form to fill out. Just fill in the details, hit submit and we'll take it from there! Or, use this shortcut — it takes you directly to that page. It looks like this:

iList Paducah is a free service (thanks to our fabulous sponsors — look for them on the right side of our home page, in their banner ads and as our iDate and iPet sponsors). And we're always happy and eager to promote all the wonderful things folks are doing for our community!

Many thanks for so much great support this year. We just love seeing all the great events going on — and the more events we receive, the better our site becomes. We look forward to helping to publicize many, many more in 2009!

DJ Bobblehead

Is this the cutest thing or what? Our pal Robyn Shapiro, who specializes in all things promotional, had this Bobblehead made in the likeness of my home boy DJ Urban Kobbb as a thank you to him for deejaying our Sex and the City and Breakfast at Tiffany's Chick Flicks parties. Robyn, Jill Chambers, Landee Bryant (executive director of Maiden Alley Cinema) and I organize those shindigs, and DJUK always picks just the right music to play during cocktail hour and the fashion shows.

Here's a close up:

Robyn gave this to him last Friday night when he deejayed at di Fratelli's. Great crowd — thanks everyone for coming!

If you'd like your own Bobblehead or one for a friend, just email Robyn! She can do the whole thing from just photos, so it can be a great surprise present!

Sponsored Email for Michelson Jewelers!

We sent out our second iList Paducah sponsored email yesterday to help our friends at Michelson Jewelers promote some very cool gifts for men!

They've got really beautiful Philip Stein wine wands and William Henry pocket knives and pens — very oh lá lá. And we couldn't help but to feature a few great pieces for women for under $200. Plus, there's the fabulous $100 gift card that you can print out and use when purchasing any item for $300 or more.

So please stop in and have a look around — you can't go wrong with a gift from Michelson! By the way, they're having a Lagos Trunk Show today and Saturday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

If you didn't receive the email, let me know and we'll hook you up!

New iDate of the Week Sponsor!

We've added a new spot on the right of our iDate of the Week page from iList Paducah sponsor Wildhair Studios! The spot promotes artist Susan Edwards' Brushstrokes and Beverages sessions. Instead of old-school dinner and a movie, impress your date with a evening of painting! Susan is a ton of fun and will guide you as you create your own masterpieces.

The next one is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 3, at Wildhair Studios, 201 Broadway. Just bring your date and a bottle of your favorite refreshment. Call Susan, 444.6115, to reserve your place!

More B&T Pix

Our favorite Chick Flick paparazzi were clicking away at Tuesday night's Breakfast at Tiffany's party. See fab photos from Glenn Hall on his Flickr page...

And from Keith Ford on his Flickr page!

Thanks, guys, for helping us to document all these devastatingly beautiful women!

I have several cuties on my Flickr page, too!

Steppin' Out Ladies Night

If you hear any noise, it ain't the boys, it's ladies night! Friday, 7 p.m., di Fratelli, DJ Urban Kobbb.

I'm buyin' first round for first five gal pals to come hang out with B., DJUK and me!

Sunday Afternoon

THIS is a very cool project going on now in LowerTown. Euro hottie Corinne Spielewoy is the 'hood's artist in residence — she's visiting from Switzerland. Corinne created a piece of art based on the theme of communication. Then she enlisted two other artists to create pieces in response to hers and yet more artists to create pieces in response to their pieces — and so on, much like the childhood game of telephone. The details are all here.

Anyway, all the pieces will be on display Sunday, Dec. 21, at Maiden Alley Cinema, 4-7 p.m. Plus, hottie writer Niaz Khadem has a piece he's written in response to it all, and several musicians will perform. So plan to stop by — totally super cute!

iList Paducah Welcomes...

Scotty L. Williams Massage are our newest sponsor!

Scottye Williams is a licensed massage therapist associated with the Natural Healing Institute, 2850 Adams St., Suite 8. She has worked at the lovely WellSprings Institute (also an iList Paducah sponsor!), and opened her private practice in July of this year. Scottye specializes in deep tissue, Swedish and therapeutic massage as well as massage for cancer patients.

Look how cute her meditation corner is! Her whole place offers an extremely relaxing atmosphere, perfect for those of us who would like to be reacquainted with the concept of relax.

And here's one of her massage rooms — it's calling our names, especially this time of year! Scottye also has gift certificates that she can put in very lovely gift bags — no need to wrap!

Check out Scottye's MySpace page. For an appointment, send her an email with your phone number. She'll get back to you — and then she'll get to your aching, stress-filled back!

Breakfast at Tiffany's: Snow Boots & LBDs!

Nothing slows Holly Golightly down — not even the weather! We had an amazingly wonderful turnout for last night's Breakfast at Tiffany's: MAC Style party, the latest in our Chick Flicks series. With the amazingly fabulous Nancy Sutton — she of the Sex and the City hottest shoes fame — arriving in full Holly attire, dar-ling!

Here are a few fun photos — the rest are on our Flickr page. They're so cute, so be sure to have a look!

Thanks to everyone for coming! Our next flick is An Officer and a Gentleman, oh lá lá Richard Gere! It's Tuesday, Jan. 20. Look for details soon on iList Paducah!

More B@T Pix

To see more fun photos like those above, visit our Flickr page! Once you're on the page, click on any of the little pix to enlarge! Photogs Keith Ford and Glenn Hall were also shooting, so when they post their pix, I'll share those links, too!

Starfish Orphan Ministry Ornaments!

The fab Kijsa Housman designed these super-cute holiday ornaments for the Starfish Orphan Ministry. They're darling and are just $10, with all proceeds directed toward the ministry's work to help orphaned children around the world. Laura Roberts and Stacey Davis run the organization and, with the help of their supporters, have greatly improved the lives of many, many children.

Buy them (lots of them) at Medical Spa 7, Hooper's, Kijsa's LowerTown gallery and all seven Owen Cleaners, including the one in Draffenville!

We did a cute iList Paducah story about Starfish earlier this year. They've also got a Web site, and their number is 217.1593.

12/16/2008

YES! We're ON!

The weather's supposed to clear up this afternoon, so if everyone drives SLOWLY, we'll all be fine. So get those tiaras out — we are ON! Can't wait!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to pick one (or more, if you'd like) of four categories to judge:

iLove it!

The newly popular iPet of the Week
And the fun iList PlayList

Teeth as White as Snow!

Dr. Scott Bridges and Dr. William Walden had a visit from Santa the other day! These super cute dentists have donated a $400 certificate for Zoom Whitening for our Breakfast at Tiffany's event tonight — which we're hoping to have. We'll make a decision on that a little later this morning when we see what the weather is going to do.

In the meantime, if you've been meaning to brighten up your pearly whites, make an appointment at Paducah Dental. They're an iList Paducah sponsor, and you know how we love those! We also featured the service in our iList Paducah Gift Guide to Meet Her Every Need. Call 'em at 444.6414.

12/15/2008

Are We On?

We don't know. We're worried, too. And hopeful that the weather will be OK for folks to come to Breakfast at Tiffany's at Maiden Alley Cinema Tuesday night, Dec. 16. Doors will open — we hope — at 6 p.m.

We'll make the decision, though, tomorrow morning, when we have a better idea of the road conditions.

I have most everyone's email address. If you're coming and you're worried that I don't have your email, please an email your email, and I'll email you the scoop tomorrow morning. Or just come look here. We'll probably decide around 10 a.m.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Nikki's Art: Private Viewings Available!

Last Saturday night, Aspire Arts, 611 North 6th St., hosted an opening for some gorgeous new works by our own Nikki D. May. Nikki, of course, makes iList Paducah gorgeous and does all the tekkie stuff — she's an excellent graphic designer. And she's an excellent fine artist.

She does most of her work in encaustic, which involves pigmented beeswax that she applies to her original drawings and photographs — along with old book pages and other found papers and objects. The resulting pieces have a nostalgic and intimate feel, inviting the viewer to look closely.

They're absolutely beautiful — just like MzNikki — and come in a variety of prices and sizes. Perfect for holiday gifts!

For a private showing, zap Nikki an email. She'd love for you have a look! For more of her work, visit her artsy Web site!

December Biz Journal

The December Four Rivers Business Journal is out and online. I write an Internet column each month, which gives me a great excuse to interview Web experts like Glen Arterburn, Sherri Goins of IVS and Jeff French of ZebraGraphics, among lots of other folks. This particular column shares their great ideas on using the Web for holiday promotions.

The column is here. If you can't access it, just let me know and I can email it to you.

iList Paducah 12/12 Holiday Party Pix!

Y'all, that was a throw-down this past Friday night at di Fratelli! Many thanks for coming to our iList Paducah 12/12 Holiday Party! Tons of cute people, great drinks and food thanks to Eric Hoffman, Brian Steffen and chef Ken White. And excellent mood music from that hottie DJ Urban Kobbb.

I posted a bunch of photos to Flickr — and we'll feature them Wednesday on iList Paducah, too. Rock on, y'all. Thanks for making our iList Paducah parties so fun!

12/11/2008

iList Paducah 12/12 Party! Everyone's Invited!

Stop by di Fratelli's Friday and share a little holiday love! We'll be there around 7 p.m. Hope to see everyone!

Movie Quotes

Our Current assignment today was to share our all-time best movie quote. Suzanne offered up several that, she says, "might represent a girl's whole journey of human existence. (Or not.) She picked a classic one from The Virgin Suicides, a beautiful movie by Sophia Coppola.

Patience picked one from A Fish Called Wanda and from To Kill a Mockingbird, suggesting that if she were Queen of Everything — and, in my opinion, she should be, she'd "require all Heads of State to view both movies. Weekly."

Click the image above to enlarge for easier reading.

Never one to miss a promo opportunity, I used the column to plug Breakfast at Tiffany's. Here's what I wrote:

"I'm just CRAZY about Tiffany's."

It's from, of course, Breakfast at Tiffany's. Just as you think Holly Golightly is about to put her nameless cat in the fridge, she pours herself a champagne glass of milk, explaining to Paul Varjak that she can't name the cat until she finds a place where she "and things" go together.

"If I could find a real-life place that'd make me feel like Tiffany's, then I'd buy some furniture and give the cat a name!"

Anyone who's been to Tiffany's knows exactly what she's talking about.

Join us for the film as part of our Chick Flicks series, 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Maiden Alley Cinema! $40, including champagne (not milk!) in commemorative champagne glasses.

We still have some seats left, but they're going quickly! All the details are on iList Paducah!

EntreForum: Our Top 10 Tips

Many thanks to the very kind folks who sat through my EntreForum presentation last night at Bryerpatch Studios. I had a great time doing it, and I hope folks got a little something out of it. As I said in the beginning, I really feel more like a mentee than a mentor. Nikki and I started iList Paducah just a year and a half ago, an we still have so much to do and learn.

I did, however, come up with a slide of 10 things that I think are true for every entrepreneur — or at least they are for us.

The iList Paducah Top 10 List of Things We’re Learning:

• It's really fun to do something you like to do.
• Don't jump into anything too quickly that will tie you down.
• It will take 1,000,000 times longer to do stuff than you think it will.
• You'll have to do things you never thought you’d ever have to do. Ever.
• You’ll work harder than you’ve ever worked. Ever.
• You must have partners and evangelists.
• You must have your business systems in place. Not necessarily now, but soon.
• You must have your business plan in place. Not necessarily now, but soon.
• It will put a strain on your family life and your health. So rest up.
• You must be patient with yourself. And everyone else.
• You must celebrate often, and involve your partners and evangelists in your celebrations!

So there you go. Actually, that's 11, not 10. But, you know, you always wanna deliver a little more than you promise. Oh, wow, there's 12!

The next EntreForum features CSI Founder John Williams, who knows way more stuff than I do. It's set for 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the CSI headquarters. It's free and open to anyone interested in starting or expanding a business. So come check it out — lots of great folks are involved. For more info, email Stacy Thomas at the Chamber!

Michelson Jewelers Ladies Night Out!

Now THIS is how step-mamma gets her shop on! This past Sunday was Michelson Jewelers' annual Ladies Night Out, and cute, cute, cute BZ Duwe was there, whipping up pomegranate martinis while the ladies had a look around.

There were furs — totally cute on Betty Hall of Green Door Floral. Yes, I know. Fur. The comment button is below.

There were eye and lip makeovers from the fabulous Leah Hagel of Medical Spa 7.

And, of course, there were jewels!

And more jewels!

If you missed it, be sure to get on Louis Michelson's mailing list — just send him an email! And visit his Web site to download his coupon for $100. Or, better yet, come to Breakfast at Tiffany's — we'll have them in the goodie bags!

Details, Details, Details...

Last week I needed a major car wash, so I called SnL Detail. They're an iList Paducah sponsor, yand they come directly to your car, wherever it is, and wash it for you, right there, on the spot, without you having to do anything except pay them.

It was amazing! They bring everything they need — that's Doug, above, cute, cute, cute — and they just do it while you're doing something else. I highly recommend it. Just call Scotty or Lisa Davis, 366.4926, to set up an appointment. Mention iList Paducah and save $10!

In fact, I love them so much that we included SnL Detail in our iList Paducah Gift Guide to Meet Her Every Need, our feature story today on iList Paducah. It's a totally cute gift guide directed toward men who, you know, think socks are a great Christmas gift. If you know a fella like that, please share the link with him so that he does better this time around.

We have some super cute gift ideas from iList Paducah sponsors — and many offer some great discounts! So have a look — you'll definitely see lots of things you'd like to find under the tree. Or in your driveway!

Entrepreneur as a Bald Baby

Can you guess which one is me? Come to my EntreForum presentation tonight and you'll find out!

You'll also hear a little about this one, too! (That's not me, but most of you know her! She's cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it!)

It's tonight, 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Bryerpatch Studio, 502 North 5th St., at the corner of Harrison. Tony Foo Yong kicks us in gear with some music, there's iList Paducah-sponsored libations (they don't usually have libations), Artisan Kitchen catering and lots of great folks sharing entrepreneur types of info.

Hopefully I'll have some good stuff to say. I'm working on it.

Be a GOOD Santa!

Is that just the cutest billboard EVER? We LowerTown folks — the artists, galleries, shops, iList Paducah HQ, etc... — all chipped in and artist Terry Pagel designed this great billboard in hopes of attracting more holiday shoppers to the 'hood. The board (likely sold by this Lamar Advertising hottie) is located on Park Avenue, on the left, as you're heading from LowerTown out toward Roof Brothers.

Wondering who the cutie model is? It's Terry's brother, Andrew Pagel!

It's cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it! So please look for it as you're out doing your holiday shopping. And be sure to stop in each shop, studio and gallery in LowerTown — you'll definitely find some great items for everyone on your list this year!

Here's a complete list of LowerTown folks and their holiday schedules — just click to enlarge and print:

Happy shopping!

Our Own Darling Nikki

So most folks know that Nikki D. May, my iList Paducah partner — she makes everything all pretty — is also a wonderful fine artist. She does these lovely mixed media encaustic pieces that are absolutely beautiful.

Nikki has several pieces of art at Aspire Arts now — lots of small pieces that would make great small holiday gifts! So stop in and have a look and, you know, buy them. And stop in, have a look and buy them with a glass of wine in your hand on Saturday, Dec. 13, as Aspire Arts is hosting a reception for Nikki. It's 6-8 p.m. at the gallery, 611 North 6th St. See you there!

By the way, Nikki's birthday is Wednesday, Dec. 10! We'll likely be at all our favorite Downtown spots, so look for us and wish her a happy happy.....

Tiara Power!

I've been meaning to give a shout-out to one of my favorite bloggers, Suzanne Clinton, for doing that thing bloggers do — promoting really good things. Look what she has on her Bizzyville blog — a pitch for Breakfast at Tiffany's, the next film in Maiden Alley's Chick Flicks series! So cute!

The event is Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Maiden Alley Cinema. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the movie at 7:15 p.m. There's champagne, hors d'oeuvres and general festivity in between! So please plan to come. All the details are here!

Free Money! Deadline Dec. 15!

Along with being named one of America's Top 15 Winning Workplaces by The Wall Street Journal, iList Paducah sponsor Paducah Bank is absolutely one of Paducah's top winning corporate citizens.

Why? Because they're giving away money. If you're associated with a nonprofit, 501c3 or public service organization or institution, your group could be awarded with a Paducah Bank donation, in-kind donation and a new batch of volunteers.

Just download the brochure, which includes all the details, and return it to Susan Guess, 555 Jefferson St., by December 15.

Good luck!

On a Brighter Note...

Here's some good news from the Paducah Symphony Orchestra, which we hinted at in yesterday's iList Paducah email. Tomorrow, Dec. 5, you can snap up half-priced tickets to The Holiday Pops concert on Saturday, Dec. 13, 7:30 p.m., as well as to A Child's Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 14, 3 p.m., both at the Carson Center. It's just a three-hour window of opportunity, though — you gotta call or stop by the office between 3-6 p.m.

The phone number is 444.0065 and the office, as you probably know, is at 2101 Broadway. I recommend the office — there's free cocoa there!

Dead Air

If you were kind enough to tune in to our spot on The Morning Show on Electric 96.9 with AJ and Mitch today (see post below), only to find us not there, our apologies.

Turns out that the station, Bristol Broadcasting, put the kibosh on the whole super cute idea of having us on each week to promote our area's hottest upcoming events, dish about our hottie iDates and highlight our heartwarming iPets.

I spoke with Station Manager Gary Morse about it, who, by the way, is cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it, to see if we'd done something wrong. I mean, there was that whole discussion about Jennifer Fox, the hot naked chick with the guitar who shows up on our site from time to time.

Evidently, Gary likes us as guests, but doesn't think we should be on each week. He thinks the show should have "different and varied guests," with no one guest in particular at a regular time. He didn't know, however, when he might want to have us back.

So we've been a little bummed about it all day because we really enjoyed doing it last week, and we were SO CUTE!

Here's the link to the bit we did last week about events (including the Jennifer Fox reference). And here's the link to our iDate (Lisa Guill) and iPet (Dru Bear) piece.

If you think we have potential, Gary's email is garymorse@wkyq.com. Or, if you'd like us on YOUR OWN radio station, my email is mary@ilistpaducah.com.

In the meantime, keep listening to AJ and Mitch — they're darling!

We've Got a Jingle!

UPDATE: OK, well, we just heard this morning that this is a no-go. Stay tuned (here, anyway) for details... : (

This is so cute. Nikki and I are now regular guests on The Morning Show on Electric 96.9, hosted by super hotties AJ and Mitch. (A nod to the power of networking and showing up — we met AJ at the Get Your Buzz On 20/30 Group DOC Talk a few weeks ago at Jeremiah's.) Anyway, AJ invited us to come to Bristol Broadcasting and talk about the hottest events on iList Paducah, along with our featured iDates, iPets and other cool stuff.

Our first appearance was last Wednesday, and as a surprise, AJ and Mitch had this jingle waiting for us! We've added it to our home page, AND, we both made it our ring tones. So don't be surprised if you hear in one day in the middle of Kroger.

Please tune in — we're on each Wednesday at 8:10 and 8:20 a.m., including this morning! And AJ and Mitch absolutely rock! Thanks, guys!

Argentinean Grill Open! It's Meat ON!

This past Saturday, that handsome Nestor Nunez and team quietly opened the much-anticipated Martin Fierro Argentinean Grill and Rodizio — and I can tell you — it's fabulous!

It's located at 314 Broadway, with a big window where you can watch the chefs in action...

...or come inside and get a little drink action with hottie mixologist Karen Adams. The full bar is stocked with Argentine wines and specialty drinks.

Hostess Reneé Rush will seat you (reservations required: 408.1300), and Lisa Bobo and Laura Lowery will be among the many folks waiting on your every need.

So here's how it works:

First you enjoy an awesome salad bar. But don't fill up there, even though it's all delish...

...because this hunka-hunka, Eugene Nunez (Nestor's son), helps to oversee all the hunka-hunka meats that will soon parade over to your table...

...thanks to the Gauchos. These super cute fellas, Frank Corona, Fernando Morales and Jesus Lemus, serve sausage, chicken, pork and sirlon right from the skewer and right at your table — like all of those, one after another. That's the Rodizio part.

And I'm not going to lie. It's the most delicious meat medley I've ever tasted. And they have this little system — you'll have a card at your table. Leave the green side up when you're ready for more. Turn it over to red and the Gauchos know to give you a little break.

But the thing is, it's not at all overwhelming. The portion sizes are just right so that you truly enjoy everything without that post-Thanksgiving-turkey hangover most of us are still recovering from!

So how did an Argentinean Grill find its way to Paducah?

These guys. Hottie Eugene and Hottie Cousin Santiago Norte came to Mayfield to play soccer for Mid-Continent University. They'd have parties whenever Nestor and wife Laura came to visit. "Nestor would cook and everyone would tell us how unbelievable the food was," Santiago says — not surprising, since Nestor owns 15 such grills in his native country of Uruguay. The Nunezs and the Nortes received so much encouragement from local folks that they decided to make Paducah their first "international" location!

Stop in for lunch, Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and dinner Tuesday-Thursday, 4:30-9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 4-10 p.m. Sunday brunch rocks: 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Get your meat on!

Hey, That's Me!

EntreForum, held every two months, is free and open to anyone interested in starting, or pushing forward with, a new business. Several local business folks serve as mentors — I'm one — and are on hand to listen to ideas and offer suggestions. Other mentors include the likes of Billy Harper, John Williams, Caryl Bryer Fallert and Steve Hagan, so I'm in some pretty tall cotton up in there!

I'll be doing a presentation at the next EntreForum gathering set for 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Bryerpatch Studio, 502 North 5th St. We'll have hors d'oeuvres from Artisan Kitchen, and since I'm involved in planning this one, there will be plenty of libations! And DJ Tony Foo Yong will get things spinnin'!

Here, by the way, are directions to Bryerpatch.

RSVP to hottie Stacy Thomas at the Chamber, or call her, 443.1746. Hope to see you all there!

Recruiting Vagina Monologue-rs!

While fabulous men are being recruited below, fabulous women are wanted to perform in The Vagina Monologues, set for Saturday, March 7, at the Robert Cherry Civic Center. This annual event raises funds for the Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center, and it's a powerful evening of heart-warming — and heart-wrenching — stories that raise awareness for the fight to stop violence against us gal types.

The auditions are open to all women, ages 18-110, and they're set for 6 p.m., Dec. 8, 9 and 10, at the Market House Studio Theatre next to Market Square Coffee. Marsha Cash (LOVE HER!) is the director — so call her, 556.3682, or email her if you have questions.

I was cast as Vagina No. 3 a few years ago and totally enjoyed the experience. The artwork featured on the poster, by the way, is called Visions, by famous Paducah artist Sarah Roush. You'll see that in the event's publicity. Click to enlarge it for more details.

So give it a go! We'll look forward to seeing you on stage next March!

Men Who Cook is Back!

UPDATE: We've just recruited our first celebrity chef! iDate and hottie poet Gabe Camacho is our first good lookin' to be cookin' for MWC! Rock on, Gabe!

ANOTHER UPDATE! OK, also on board: iDate Kenn Gray with iDate helper Kendra Thompson (each chef can have a helper) and Nicholas and his mom and helper, iDate Lisa Guill! And, of course, DJ Urban Kobbb will be cookin', too! SUPER CUTE!

AND TWO MORE! Fowler Black is in, as is Venu Arunajatesan and his lovely helper Shannon Stull!

The 5th Annual Men Who Cook, which is one of my favorite events ever, is back, and promises to be better than ever. This high-energy, high-excitement fundraiser benefits the Purchase Area Sexual Assault & Child Advocacy Center, and it's scheduled for Saturday, March 14, at the Carson Center, 7-11 p.m.

The theme this year is sports. So the PASAC staff is looking for fabulous men in our community to sign up as chefs and whip up fun tailgate food that they'll serve from their sports-decorated booths. So if you're a fabulous man, or you know a fabulous man, this event is an absolute blast. Along with great food and drinks, there's an art and sports memorabilia auction and some fun games and lots of dancing.

Premiere sponsor tables of 10 are $1,000, corporate tables of eight are $500, Make a Difference sponsors are $250, individual tix are $35 and $60 for two. iList Paducah is in! We're a premiere sponsor, so you'll see quite a bit more about the event on our site and here on our blog.

PASAC is extremely important to our area. The lovely staff, led by gorgeous executive director Mary Foley, provides support and promotes healing for anyone affected in any way by sexual violence. As Kentucky's designated Regional Child Advocacy Center, the group assists in investigation of child abuse by facilitating forensic interviews and medical exams, and actively reviews investigations, assesses service delivery and facilitates efficient and appropriate disposition of cases through the criminal justice system.

To sign up as a chef and to purchase tickets, just call 534.442!
