From Mayfield to Mozart

"Elizabeth Futral has established herself as one of the major coloratura sopranos in the world today. She has embraced a diverse repertoire that includes Vivaldi, Handel, Mozart, Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi, Glass and Previn."

Yep, and I used to hang out with her at the McDonald's in Mayfield, Ky.

Gorgeously beautiful Elizabeth Futral — or Boo, as she was known back in the day — was a year ahead of me at Mayfield High School, and even then you just knew she was totally special. Funny, smart, very outgoing. And that voice. She sang all the time in school, at church — just gorgeous.

That was close to, gulp, 30 years ago. The next time I see her she'll be on stage at the San Francisco Opera where she'll be performing in La Traviata, in early July. Then we're meeting for dinner afterward. I'm so excited, I can barely stand it.

For more on Boo, visit her Web site. I'll do a story about her for iList Paducah, too! SUPER CUTE!
